Selection Process

Shortlisting of candidates will be based on a combination of how well you were able to communicate your ability to meet the selection criteria, your Grade Point Average (GPA) and previous work experience.

Successful shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email or telephone with an allocated interview time. If this is not suitable, please contact us immediately for an alternate time.

Interviews will be according to the merit selection process. Interview questions will be standard across candidates and will address the selection criteria.

Interviews will be conducted by a panel with three representatives from different facets of our business. There will be a series of open ended questions to give you the opportunity to utilise your theoretical knowledge base and any relevant experiences, as well as your own personal view point when answering.

Candidates attending an interview must bring the following:

  • Official copies of result transcripts and clinical placement assessments

Interview Preparation

It is important to prepare for employment interviews, to make the most of this opportunity in order to secure a position. The interview is your chance to meet potential employers, find out information about the role, inform them about what you know and demonstrate that you are the applicant most deserving of the position. It is also the time when employers will assess your understanding to the clinical environment and your role as a new Registered Nurse.

How should you prepare for the interview?

  • Think about what you have learned during your degree and how it relates to the workplace. How will you convey to an interviewer that the knowledge you have acquired about nursing will make you employable as a Registered Nurse?
  • Think about your professional and personal skills and qualities in readiness to discuss them.
  • Think of situations and prepare examples from clinical placements or past work experience to supplement your answers to interview questions.
  • Practice some interview questions. Think about what you, as a future employer, would expect a newly Registered Nurse to know and be able to articulate it.
  • Presentation is important for any employment interview. How you look reflects how you are presenting yourself to a prospective employer. Dress professionally and comfortably. Dressing too casually may encourage you to be too casual in the delivery of your responses and may similarly indicate your work practices.
  • The delivery of your answers is also very important. Responses should be carefully considered and not be too brief, rushed, ‘long winded’, blunt or vague. You should be demonstrating to the interview panel that you are keen to be there and that you are serious about wanting the position.

Offers Of Employment

Before any roles are offered, candidates will complete a psychometric assessment, a pre-employment medical assessment and a federal police check. Reference checking with appropriate referees will also be completed.

Please take note that offers must be accepted or declined by the due date (provided to you at offer). Unfortunately, failure to do so may result in the position being offered to another applicant.

In order to commence employment as a Registered Nurse in Queensland, you must obtain registration with the Queensland Nursing Council.

Should you decline a position to take up a fulltime ‘Honours’ year please let us know and where possible we may be able to offer you a place in the following year.  In the meantime you might consider alternate positions within RSL Care. Please contact Human Resources.
