RSL Care, a leading not for profit provider of community and aged care has been operating Pioneers Retirement Community in Longreach since 2003, following a Deed of Gift from former operator Longreach and District Aged Peoples Inc.

Located in picturesque landscaped grounds in central Longreach, Pioneers Retirement Community offers a range of care and lifestyle options to suit local seniors. The community comprises: 6 independent living units, 16 self contained aged accommodation cottages, 29 low-care suites, a 25 high-care facility and a 16 bed facility for those with dementia.

Pioneers in the largest aged care complex for the central western Queensland community. Residents enjoy a wide range of onsite facilities including a recreation room, swimming pool, barbecue and gazebo area. The Pioneers Retirement Community bus enables regular shopping trips and excursions, and a hairdresser visits the community regularly.

High Care Accommodation

RSL Care supports the principle of 'ageing in the place' which means every effort is made to help existing residents access higher levels of care within the same retirement community.

All low care rooms at Pioneers Retirement Community have ensuites, furniture, linen and a 24 hour emergency call system. Residents share a central communal area which has a kitchen, lounge and a TV room.

The high care facility at Pioneers underwent a major refurbishment in 2006 and was specially designed for residents who need a higher level of full-time care.

A 16 bed special care facility was constructed in 2005 and caters for those with dementia. The secure cottage has a private garden and pergola ensuring residents are cared for in pleasant surroundings.

Low Care Accommodation:
29 units are available for residents requiring a low level of care, the facility provides suites with private outdoor areas, and which share dining facilities, furnished lounge and TV area. Each private suite is furnished with bedroom furniture and linen, emergency call system, en suite, ceiling fans, evaporative cooling and heaters.
Retirement Units:

Pioneers Retirement Community also offers well appointed independent living units that offer improved lifestyle choices.

The units have been designed with today's retirees in mind and features include:

  • Located a short distance to onsite facilities
  • Separate kitchen with modern fittings
  • Level design with no stairs

RSL Care maintains the outside of all units as well as the community infrastructure and general gardens. This means residents have more time to enjoy Pioneer's active social program.

Special Care:
Special care is available in our cottage for residents experiencing dementia related conditions. The cottage is a secure environment with a private garden and pergola setting. There are 16 places in the SCU.
